For Young People

Turn your tech skills into free access, real experience, and a reference that matters.

Bytes & Biscuits trains young people (14–25) to become Digital Mentors for older adults in East Gippsland. You use skills you already have, you help real people in your community, and you build experience that actually looks good — on paper and in person.

Oh, and for as long as you are an active mentor, you can game for free ESports Collective.

Why You Should Volunteer

What's In It For You?

We know not everyone can afford to walk through the doors at ESports Collective — or have them come to you. Bytes & Biscuits is their way of changing that. Give your time to the community, and ESports Collective will give you free access to their facility. In return for mentoring, you also get:

  • Free access to ESports Collective while you're an active mentor

  • Accredited Digital Mentor certification through Good Things Australia

  • Documented volunteer hours for your resume and job applications

  • A professional reference from a federally funded program

  • Real experience explaining technology and working with people

  • Training in adult learning, communication, and digital safety

How It Works

What does mentoring actually involve?

There are two steps. First, you'll complete your Digital Mentor training — using Good Things Australia's nationally recognised curriculum. It covers how to explain technology clearly, how to support different learning styles, and how to keep sessions safe and comfortable.

Then you'll get time to practise and build confidence before you start mentoring independently. When you're ready, you'll work one-on-one or in small groups with older community members (50+) — helping with things like video calling family, setting up online banking, logging into MyGov, or just figuring out why their phone keeps doing that thing.

You'll never be thrown in at the deep end. Support from the ESports Collective team is always available.

More Then Mentoring

Real-World Skills

You probably already help people with technology more than you realise — a parent who can't figure out their phone, a grandparent confused by a new app, a friend who needs help setting something up. You do it naturally, without thinking of it as a skill.

Bytes & Biscuits formalises that. You'll walk away with an accredited Digital Mentor certification through Good Things Australia, documented volunteer hours, and a professional reference from a federally funded program — the kind of experience that makes a real difference when you're going for your first job, or your next one
